Buddy Bear and Blanket Program
Posted on: 2011-01-28
There are times when police officers, detectives, and Records Division personnel come in contact with children who have been involved in traumatic incidents. Often times by providing these children with something they can hold, cuddle or wrap themselves in, staff can promote a feeling of safety and/or promote dialogue. The Beaverton Police Department has a collection of new bears and blankets, which are given to children in need of such reassurance.
If you wish to donate bears or blankets, please note the needs of the Department and the children receiving them.
The stuffed animals need to be:
•Bears - after all, it's the Buddy Bear program. •New with tags still on them. •Soft - so kids can cuddle them. •No more than 16 inches tall - so kids can get their arms around the bears, and officers may fit them in their vehicles.
Guidelines for blankets are as follows:
•Blankets must be new whether homemade or purchased. •The size should be no larger than 38”x43”. That way it’s small enough for the child to carry around, yet large enough to wrap around themselves and snuggle in for comfort or a feeling of safety.
The Buddy Bear and Blanket Program is a wonderful way to reach out to children within the community. The program thrives on the generosity of businesses and citizens. If you would like additional information about the program, or details on how you can make a donation, please call the Beaverton Police Department's public information officer at (503) 526-2275.

Crime Maps Online
Posted on: 2008-03-11
Crime Maps Online is an easy to use Web-based system that simplifies the mapping and tracking of crimes reported to the Beaverton Police Department. The Crime Maps Online database contains reports entered since January, 2003. Crime reports are not entered into the system immediately, however, and it may take up to three months before some reports appear here. Crime Maps Online should be viewed as a supplement to other sources of information on this Web site, not a replacement
